Service Day

Hi everyone,
On Thursday 30th August at school, we had a thing called 'Service Day'. On Service day we do things for our community, for example we did the gardening, some people went to Saint John of God to visit the hurt people to play games, others went to Cherry's and many more. I went to Cashmere View Retirement home and sang as a group to them. We sung eleven songs like, Five Little Ducks, Ka Waiata (A song we sing at school), E ta Ariki and many more. Hi everyone,
A couple days ago, the school teachers had a strike. The whole school, not even a few teachers. Instead of going to school we had a day off. While the teachers were trying to get more money, us children were sleeping in, playing on the XBox, Playstation, Computer and maybe having playdates. I had a playdate with my best friend, Isla! Netball

Hi everyone, 

On Thursday 9 August we played netball. My team had a bye and so did the Green Machines, so we played a game against each other. First I was Attack then Defence, then I was off and last quarter I was Defence again. The Green Machines won by 5-10. It was a great game. We all had fun. -Lexie 🌝 

Crusaders

Hi everyone,
Today was a mufti day, not just any mufti day... Crusaders mufti day! I am wearing, my mum's crusader top, pink and black socks, (pink is red's cousin), black comfy pants, a scarf, a belt and a headband. Earlier after Morning tea we took a photo altogether. We are wearing this to support the Crusaders. A good luck to all the Crusaders, I hope they win! -Lexie ♡🌝

Weekly Highlights.

Hi everyone,
on Thursday 9th August we did reading differently. Our teacher, Mr Koorey gave us a paragraph. The paragraph had been all mixed up so we had to fix it up so we did. This is how it started out like :

Soon we will all be history. Then kids in school will read about
us. I am happy. I have a large family. I have four brothers and
four sisters. I am in the middle. Four sisters are younger than
me. I go to school. I am in the sixth grade. I like my teachers.
My teachers like me. My favorite class is history. I like to read
about history. History is a story about our past. I I have many
friends. hope they like our stories. My best friend is Bobby.
Bobby and I do many things together. I have friends in every
class. We play basketball together. We ride Four brothers are
older than me.our bikes together. I have many other friends.
We all go to the mall on weekends. We go to movies. We go
to We swim together. restaurants. We tell jokes. We laugh.
We have fun. Life is great!

Winter Sport

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday the year 5 and up went to winter sport. For Winter Sport I play netball.

My team was up against Saint Francis. They were pretty good but we were good too. 

First, I was off so I was timing the game for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, our team grouped up for our positions. I got C (centre). There are 2 Cs, me and Kywn. We all sprinted and tried our best to stay in front of our partners and get the ball. We got the ball so many times! Poor Julia was off that time, she was timing. Once the timer was done, we met up again Kywn had to go off that time. I was... Attack. I went with Julia. The other team started with the ball, we got the ball after a couple passes but we still made it down to the goal. Whenever we got the ball I sprinted down to the goal circle.. Julia tried to shoot and... she failed :(

I caught the rebound, I shot and I.... Scored! Woohoo! After a couple minutes, we met up AGAIN. Mr . Koorey said that we were going to mix up that time.. So I got centre with Emily! We ran up and down the court trying to get a goal or more. We got a couple goals. The timer rang. We met up once more. Then.. Mr Koorey said that... WE WON! The score was 15-0. Overall it was a great game. I loved playing winter sport that day, It was very fun. 🌝

Ferrymead Visit

Hi everyone,
on Tuesday 24th July 2018 the Batten team went to Ferrymead!
Firstly we went to Entertainment which was about radios and television. The lady talked about how one of the radios had to heat up before it started up, and it was very confusing. Also, there was a projector and they used slides. She showed a couple of the slides/photos. After that she told us about tvs and they only came on in the afternoon. We watched an episode of Bill and Ben the Flowerpot Men. Everyone would rush home to watch the last show on the tv before bedtime.


Secondly, we went to toys and games, another lady showed us around then we got to play. I ran straight for the typewriter. There was no paper so it was quite weird. Then I spotted some felt things so I went to check that out. Basically you have to grab some people and make a scene or a cool landscape. After that I went outside and had a go on stilts, I got..... 1 step! Woo hoo! I thought I couldn't do more so I went off to ride a "horse" It was quite fun. Next I got a turn on a wooden go kart.


Third, we got to roam around anywhere. So.. We went to the barber shop, there were two wax figures in there and one guy was getting his hair brushed and the other was doing the guys hair. Then we went to the jail, the people/wax figures were in their beds, when we looked around we saw a man with creepy eyes, one eye was looking at the wall and the other was looking at us. After all that, we had to go back to the Lodge Hall to eat lunch. The Lodge Hall is where our bags were.


After we finished lunch, we went to the bakery, we made scones. My scone was made with cheese. When we had finished making our scones. We had to set up a table for a family of four. I put on a kettle and fruit because everyone else had done all the other stuff.


Then we got to go to Moorhouse School, it was very cool. We did a little role play so we can learn about what school was like in the 1950s. So first we had to play in the "playground" (which was just grass but there used to be a playground), So we played tricky tag! Mr Brown rang the bell and we ran up to the door to line up, he said, "Boy's line, Girl's line." I was second in line so I got to sit in the front. I sat next to Sofie and Hazel. First, we did some talking, well Mr Brown did talking, he talked about how he needed volunteers for handing out milk for the day, so I put my hand up because nobody else was. After all the talking we started reading, we did a test about frogs. Then, we did spelling. (we only did a few words). Third we did maths, firstly for maths we did the nines times tables, second we did money maths. Then the school day was over.


Overall I loved the visit.  I think the Batten team, parents and teachers also loved the visit, I recommend you to go there. It was an amazing experience.

Week 9 Highlights

Today I will be sharing what I liked about this week!
This week Meg, Hannah, Emily, Ella and I made an Imovie! It was about The Explorer, it's a movie trailer. It is for Chapter Chat. Also, we finished painting our masks, My mask is called Miss Sunshine. Our masks will be shared on Monday and Tuesday at our ART ATTACK!

Chapter Chat - Dolphin Report

Hector's Dolphins Report.

Hi Everyone, this week my friend Hannah S and I made a New Zealand Dolphin Report about Hector's Dolphins. We did this for a Chapter Chat activity. Hope you enjoy it!

Chapter Chat

This week we have started reading a book called 'The Explorer' By Katherine Rundell.

It's about a boy called Fred who he was on a attack plane, they went too high up in the sky and they crashed down into the trees in the amazon jungle. The pilot had a concussion and died. Most of the people died but Fred, Con, Lila and Max survived. Con and Lila were girls, they weren't good friends. Max, is Lila's little brother and Fred is the main character. Fred was throwing poop and Con, Lila and Max popped out of the bushes. Then that's when they met.

We are reading this book for our chapter chat each week we are given a question, we have to answer this question and on Friday we post our answer on Twitter. 

This is my answer for this week:

They don’t know what’s happened to the water because there might be bugs in it. There also might be diseases in it because you don’t know who’s been there.

Question: Why shouldn't the children drink from the water they found?

Our Science Explanations

Plastic Polymer

Hi everyone! Last week for science we made Goo! 

This week we made instructions for it! 

Here mine is. 😀

What you need.

• PVA Glue
• Borax
• Squirt Dropper
• Skewer
• Food Colouring
• Small Cup

1. Put 1/2 a cup of PVA Glue into your small cup.
2. Put 1 or 2 drops of food colouring in the same cup
3. Mix using the skewer
4. Add a squirt of borax using the Squirt Dropper
5. Mix
6. Add another squirt of borax
7. Mix Nonstop
9. Your Goo will be ready, play with it! 😁

Chemical Reactions

Hi everyone, last week we did Chemical Reactions for science. We made some Instructions, here is mine.

What we need.

• 3 little plastic cups
• Baking Soda
• Washing Crystals
• Vinegar
• Skewers
• 1 plastic cups
• Little spoon(s)

Steps.

1. Set out 3 little plastic cups.
2. Bring 1 little cup and get your baking soda, take a spoonful. Put the spoonful in your cup.
3. Pour some vinegar in with your baking soda and watch.
4. Get some baking soda and put washing crystals in the cup with it.
5. Pour vinegar into it and it will foam.

Use different colour baking soda to get cool colours. 

You can also use Mult Vinegar to make it foam.
