Hi everyone,
Welcome back to my blog, today I am sharing with you my speech. My Speech is on "The Benefits of having a Pet, and why you should get one". We started around Week 5 and presented in Week 7. The speech finals were yesterday. Here below is my speech:
Intro
What if you woke up every morning, got dressed and went out to the living room and found your dog sitting there waiting for you with a BIG smile on its face. That’s what I wake up to and you should as well. I’m here to tell you what the benefits of having a pet is, and why you should get one.
Paragraph 1
Studies show that when you spend lots of time with your pets, they can
reduce your stress
Your blood pressure
Your feelings of loneliness and depression
They can also give you the opportunity to get more exercise and socialisation with other people. Pets can also help you with if you have anxiety, more self-confidence on going out in the world and finding new things and people. According to researchers, people over the age of 65 who own pets make 30% less visits to the doctor’s office. Just patting your pet can reduce your blood rate by 10%. Spending time with them also releases serotonin in your body, serotonin is a hormone in our body that controls our well being, it impacts our whole body. Serotonin can also help with sleeping, eating and our digestive system.
Paragraph 2
Now, I am going to talk about therapy dogs and what they can do to help you with your mental health. They can help you with fighting off emotional breakdowns and help keep your mind fresh with happiness and optimism. Researches have found out that the presence of a pet or a therapy animal can help a person control their anxiety and improve their mood. Therapy dogs are trained to help people with intense emotions and calm them down and make them feel better. You can see them out in public wearing “Please pat me” patches, of course, that is because it helps you reduce stress and negative emotions and makes you feel better.
Paragraph 3
There are many different types of pets you can get. You could get a dog, a cat, a hamster, guinea pig, even a snake or a lizard. Snakes and Lizards are not a usual pet you would find in someones home but they can also grow love to their owners as much as your usual dog or cat. Birds can have a long lifespan, depending on what kind of bird, they can also encourage social interaction and keep your mind sharp.
Paragraph 4
Just think how many animals were suffering from severe injuries, or stray animals that need a home. The SPCA helps protect over 40,000 animals a year in New Zealand. Sometimes they are sick, injured or just abandoned from their homes. You can adopt pets from there that have been helped from suffering from an injury or being abandoned and not wanted. They work every day to find animals that have been hurt or sick and help them get back on their feet and in good condition to get a new loving mother or father. They save all types of animals, cats, dogs, reptiles, rabbits and many more.
Conclusion
Now, have you changed your opinion about having a cute little companion living by your side? Well, I most certainly hope you have but let me go through what I have stated to refresh your knowledge about what they can do to help you,
